~ Margo to Edith and Agnes, the statement that turned out to be prophetic. |
Margo Gru is one of the three tritagonists (alongside Edith and Agnes) of the Despicable Me franchise.
She is a 13-year old girl, and the oldest of the three orphan sisters who is the brainy and sarcastic one of the trio, but is otherwise the most mature of the trio. Like her younger sisters, Margo has been adopted by Gru. She is partially the reason Vector is trapped on the moon.
She is voiced by Miranda Cosgrove.
What Makes Her A Shojo Hero?[]
- Heroic/Honorable: She has committed a number of heroic deeds, such as telling Edith and Agnes to jump onto Gru's ship so that they could live when their lives were at stake, curing all of the Evil Minions back to normal, and going out of her way to defend her parents from Principal Übelschlecht. Along with her sisters, she also has a positive influence on Gru's personality, contributing to his eventual redemption in the long run.
- Kind/Gentle: Asides from her family, she generally seems to be extremely nice to everyone regardless of age or gender throughout the course of the four films.
- Bubbly: She has a fun loving side, with examples including throwing toilet paper around Gru's living room and having pillow fights with her sisters. She also joins in with Edith's mischievous antics if it's against someone she doesn't like.
- Compassionate: While she was initially hesitant to trust Gru, she shows a strong capacity for love, forgiveness, and protection for her sisters. She warms up to both Gru and Lucy, demonstrating a willingness to form bonds and support them.
- Has a Crush on Someone: She falls in love with a boy named Antonio Perez, though later on he callously ditches her to go dance with another girl, breaking her heart.
- Optimistic: Although she has difficulty trusting people, she tells her sisters that they will be happy with Gru eventually, after he adopts them. This statement ultimately turned out to be prophetic.
- Innocent: She lacks virtually any corrupting factors unlike most other protagonists of the quadrilogy, making her Completely Good.
- Idealistic: She encourages Gru to fall in love with Lucy, which eventually succeeds, and encourages Lucy to be more of a a disciplinarian mother.
- Determined: When she and her sisters have to jump to Gru from Vector's ship, she tells them to jump onto Gru's ship so that they could live when their lives were at stake, at the cost of her own and to an extent, Gru's too.
- Youthful: Being a teenage girl, she tends to be a sensitive and straight to the point of being a girl who is very untrusting of people, and is shown a to have a sarcastic sense of humor and wit. She is also very mature for her apparent age.
- Believes in the Power of Friendship/Love: She is highly protective towards her younger sisters, having to act the adult often. At first she has difficulty trusting Gru, when he shows up to rescue them from Vector she is happy to see him but she is still unsure whether to go back as he gave them away again, but she encouraged Edith and Agnes to jump when Gru makes a heartfelt apology, and after he rescues them, she finally accepts him, when Gru later told the story of how they changed his life and kisses them goodnight, Margo says that she loves him, finally viewing him as her dad. She needed time accepting Lucy as a mother especially when the latter tried too hard or too little in bonding with her and the others, but after Lucy defended her from Niko's Mother, she did change her perspective and hugged her for defending her honor, and she was also happy Lucy came to rescue her and the others from Bratt's attempted destruction of Hollywood.
- Possesses Plot Armor: She and Gru would have fallen to their deaths from the sky had the Minions not formed a lifeline and grabbed onto them in the nick of time.
- Insecure: She seems like a teen girl with insecurities at first, but as as she has more experiences with Gru and the Minions she becomes more confident.
- Is a Cutie: Despite being mature and serious, she is a very cute little girl, and is one of the cutest characters in the franchise.
- Age 10-16: She is 12 years old in the first three films and 13 in the fourth.
