Mikan Tsumiki is a supporting character in Danganronpa 2: Goodbye Despair. She is a shy nurse, who always wants to help out her fellow classmates. In chapter 3, she catches the Despair Disease, and regains her memories of being a Remnant of Despair, leading her to kill Ibuki Mioda and Hiyoko Saionji before regaining control of herself.
What Makes Her a Shojo Heroine?[]
- Heroic/Honorable: She helps her classmates talk Ryota Mitarai out of his plan to brainwash the world into despair and saves Kyoko Kirigiri from being poisoned by reviving her using an antidote created by Seiko Kimura.
- Kind/Gentle: She's nothing but well-meaning in spite of her lack of social skills who wishes to help out her friends and even tries to comfort Kyoko after Mahiru's death in spite of how horribly Hiyoko's been treating her the entire time (albeit to no success).
- Compassionate: She helps Kyoko awaken from her coma without expecting any sort of reward and happily accepts Ryota to come with her and the rest of her class to live on Jabberwock Island even in spite of him almost brainwashing the entire world with hope.
- Clumsy: She's an exaggerated parody of the "cute clumsy girl" archetype.
- Socially Awkward: She has little social skills, which leads to her often staying quiet during her Free Time Events.
- Sensitive: She's quick to tears thanks to the abuse she's dealt with from bullies and her parents, worsened by Hiyoko's cruelty.
- Long-Hair: She has long, choppy hair from being cut up by school bullies.
- Insecure: Thanks to the bullying she's endured all her life, she has cripplingly low self-esteem and a desperation for attention in any way.
- Is A Crybaby: She's almost always on the verge of breaking down into tears.
- Pacifistic: Holds no animosity towards Ryota for his plot to brainwash the entire world.
- Has an Idol: She idolized Junko Enoshima as a Remnant of Despair thanks to her brainwashing, seeing Junko was the only one who'd ever love her. Thankfully, she sheds all of her past admiration for Junko after her brainwashing is undone.
- Short-Tempered: After regaining her memories as a Remnant of Despair, she becomes unstable and psychotic, screaming at the others to forgive her throughout most of the trial and breaking down even further the more evidence is presented against her. She doesn't exhibit any of this when her brainwashing is lifted, however.
