Usagi Tsukino, also known as Sailor Moon, is the titular main protagonist in the 1992-1997 anime, the 2014 anime reboot, and manga series of the same name.

In the Japanese version, she is voiced by Kotono Mitsuishi and Kae Araki who was a temporary stand-in for the former in the first anime. In the English version for the DIC dub, she was initially voiced by Tracy Moore, but was later replaced by Terri Hawkes for the last 57 episodes of Sailor Moon. In the Cloverway dub, she was voiced by Linda Ballantyne. Sailor Moon's current English voice actress for VIZ Media in both the redub of the first anime and Sailor Moon Crystal is Stephanie Sheh.

What Makes Her a Shojo Heroine?[]

  • Heroic/Honorable: Sailor Moon has saved the universe from countless threats, most notably Queen Beryl.
  • Kind/Gentle: Usagi Tsukino is one of the nicest characters in the series, to the point of being quick to forgive others at times.
  • Bubbly: Usagi is shown to be very energetic.
  • Compassionate: Usagi shows her empathetic side to not only her friends, but also to strangers and occasionally her enemies.
  • Clumsy: Usagi is prone to tripping over things and generally being careless of how she moves.
  • Naive/Absent-Minded: Usagi is not only an underachiever, but she is also easy to manipulate and tends to be inattentive.
  • Has a Crush on Someone: Usagi has a crush on Mamoru Chiba, aka Tuxedo Mask.
  • Optimistic: Though she can fall into moments of depression, Usagi manages to find the brighter side of her life.
  • Innocent: Though she can lose her temper at times, Usagi has an otherwise pure heart.
  • Believes in the Power of Friendship/Love: Sailor Moon gains her strength from her love for Tuxedo Mask and her friendship with the Sailor Guardians.
  • Wears Bright Colors: Aside from her blue and white school uniform and Sailor Scout outfit, Usagi wears bright colors like pink.
  • Has a Sweet Tooth: Usagi generally enjoys eating sweets and candy.
  • Pigtails/Buns/Long Hair: Usagi has very long blond hair and she styles them in buns and pigtails.
  • Insecure: Due to being less talented in comparison to the Sailor Scouts, Usagi feels self-conscious about her lack of natural aptitude as well as her ability to be a hero.
  • Is a Crybaby: Usagi is prone to crying, even over things that are not particularly serious.
  • Pacifistic: Usagi rarely kills innocent people, even those who were transformed into monsters, and chooses to heal them.
  • Magical: As Sailor Moon, she possesses extraordinary magic abilities.
  • Is a Cutie: Usagi has a baby face, an innocent and naive disposition and a love for sweet food like ice cream.
  • Age 10-16: Usagi is 14 years old by the start of the series and is 16 years old by the end of it.
